Cancer treatment with radiation or chemotherapy can impair the function of the reproductive organs, so that it will lead to sterility and difficult to obtain offspring.
But now with Fertility Preservation techniques, then hope to get pregnant and get the descendants can still be supported.
Techniques of Fertility Preservation comprises of three techniques:
1. Freeze Ovarian Tissue
This technique requires surgery to remove ovarian tissue. The network was captured, frozen, and then replanted when needed. Frozen tissue can be stored a long time. Research indicates that ovarian tissue can survive and can be replanted for an unlimited time.
2. Oocyte Freezing
This technique is done by freezing the egg cells. The egg was issued in advance which is then frozen. When needed, the egg can be fertilized. Spending on the egg is done in the two weeks since the beginning of menstruation.
3. Embryo Freezing
This technique is done by means of freeze the egg at a certain temperature. Egg cells collected is similar to the process of tube baby, the difference is the egg frozen in advance before a fertilized egg.
As for the men, prior to radiation therapy or chemotherapy, the sperm is taken which is then frozen at the sperm bank. These sperm can be stored for years and can be re-used when needed, for example for the baby the tube. Sperm quality between that hasn't been frozen already frozen is the same without any difference in quality.
